Good to know

How the school year works

Whose dates are these

This is the official calendar for state schools across Malta and Gozo. Church and independent schools publish their own calendars; the breaks usually fall on the same weeks.

June is half-days

In June, state school students attend mornings only, and the scholastic year ends in the last days of the month.

Summer childcare

Skolasajf, the government summer programme for ages 3 to 16, runs through the school summer holidays at state primary schools. It closes for Santa Marija week in mid-August.

Travelling in term time

Flights and hotels are usually cheaper, and beaches and sights quieter, outside the school holidays — the trade-off every parent knows.
